Reviews

Beyond Legend by Heather McLaren was a delight to read, and I can honestly say I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. Within minutes after I started reading, the tension and excitement began and showed no signs of relenting. Heather did an excellent job of keeping the thrills going in this danger-filled sequel to Mythos. We get to see familiar faces and places, but we are also introduced to new horrors created from the mind of Anastasia. Despite its name, the enchanted cave is truly a place right out of your nightmares. I couldn't wait for them to get out of there! Having read Mythos, the first book in this series, Beyond Legend is everything I expected from Ms. McLaren. Her quality of writing is ever apparent, and her ability to tell a wonderfully detailed story was once again in abundance. I highly recommend Beyond Legend. You won't be lost if you start the series with this book, but to get the full impact, I recommend reading Mythos first. You won't be disappointed!

Not Disney’s Little Mermaid!

Heather McLaren’s second Mer Chronicles novel is anything but Disney’s Little Mermaid. This sequel to Mythos is gripping in its delivery, and brings together several Fantasy/Gothic genres in a single tale of action, and emotional loss. If you ever wondered what Mer-lore would be like if coupled with a Zombie Apocalypse – meets a dark version of Alice’s Wonderland, then this book is the place to find out.

I very much enjoyed reading this tale, and I look forward to the release of McLaren’s third installment of the series.

I enjoyed the first book in the series so I had high hopes for this one. First off, I need to day something about the cover. I’m sorry but it’s awful. Really bad. It’s a cheesy mess and looks photo shopped. If I was browsing a book store the cover would not encourage me to pick up the book. It wold endeavour me to run a mile. However, the story inside the awful cover is really good. This is quite a horrific, gory read and much darker than the first book. The awful cover does not do the book justice. The book is also quite a fun read despite the dark events that take place. I enjoyed it a bit more than the first book. I guess I have a weakness for mermaid or merpeople myths. I look forward to the third book in the series.
